How We'll Work Together

During my time in an Ivy League admissions office, the biggest question I always have when reading was, "Did this student really present themselves well in this application, and do they stand out?" The answer was often no, especially after denying so many students. One of the biggest problems is that students often cannot reveal who they are and their own intellectual heart very well in applications. So, one of the biggest things I focus on with students is introspection. Who are you? Why do you love learning? What do you love learning about? We'll use those fundamental questions to start bridging the gap between you and the colleges you want to go to. But before that, we'll get you and your family familiar with the landscape of college admissions and insider secrets. After that, we have three stage process to getting you to the end: Introspection and Mentorship, Essay Revisions, and Application Review.

Introspection and Mentorship

Right from the beginning, we'll be there for you. And the way we start is perhaps unconventional to some, but absolutely necessary:

We'll start with films, music, and literature. We'll dive into some of your favorite movies and artists and find that connection between their art and themselves. Then, we'll find that connection between you and their art. That intersection is the start of an intellectual journey for many people, and it's absolutely the best place to start. I won't lie, it'll feel unnatural at first. But you'll start to get a hang of it after a few days.

After finishing some early introspection, we'll talk more about what you've done in high school (like your extracurriculars), what you're interested in once at college, and how they align. We'll start piecing together your introspection earlier to the brainstorming stage now. We'll also start talking about what you need to start doing as it relates to your strengths and interests in order to really help you stand out.

We'll start composing and synthesizing all the things we've been talking about so far and really start to think about your essays and how you can write them. Here is where the writing starts, but a lot of writing is actually thinking! So you'll be thinking through what you want to say before you actually write it. I'll be with you every step of the way for this, giving you guidance from my perspective as a former admissions officer on what I would like to see, and how you can improve.

Essay Revisions

People often think writing is the most time-consuming part. In my opinion, it's thinking about what to write that takes more time. But using every method we have so far, you'll finally be able to write. Remember, colleges want real people—with real intellectual heart and quality of character. That's what we'll be doing here.

Taking your introspection and combining it with my lessons learned in the admissions office, we'll start crafting answers that actually give an admissions officer pause. We'll focus on the craft of writing, too: structure and prose. But the biggest mistake people have is using common structures and prose across the board, ultimately making it so they stand out less.

Application Review

As a former admissions officer at two highly selectively schools, I'll provide a holistic end-to-end review of your entire application using my training and experience.

Once you're done with your app, I'll give it a look over like I was still an admissions officer: a 5 minute read with assumptions of an incredibly competitive regional pool. I'll write up what I thought was strong, and what I wanted more of, delivering that to you in a way you can better improve and reiterate.

After all is said and done, you'll be ready to submit! But before we do, we'll talk about what you're concerned about and how we can fix things. I'll also explain the process of how it works after you submit applications, and how I support you until you receive your decision letters!
