Frequently Asked Questions

I emphasize a love of learning. All ideas and opinions and subjects are fun to dive into, and I make it a point to really internalize this. If you're willing to engage with a wide variety of ideas, subjects, and opinions, then we are probably a good fit for each other.

I help students in all grade levels! Generally speaking, the earlier I can help, the smoother the entire process of applying to top colleges is. Please see my services tab for more information, or please feel free to contact me. Initial consultations are free.

I would consider it my speciality. I help students identify what works for them, which includes some schools outside the top 20; this is done with a ground-up approach, figuring out what's best for the student and what they care about. Most of my students, however, come in with a set of schools (usually the top 20) they already want me to help them with. To answer the question more aptly, no, I don't exclusively help students with the top 20, but I would say my services are best suited for students looking to apply to the top 30 range.

I previously worked at two top schools, was a top student myself, and I bring both of those experiences to the table. But I think what differentiates me from other consultants is that I emphasize a very specific program of learning and really instill that in my students. I hope, by the end of working with students, they come out of the process with a new, refined love of learning. Students I work with already love learning, but in working with them, we develop new ways of thinking about things, new ways of understanding the world, and as a result, new ways of expression. There is no formula to be employed for college apps, so how I tailor the learning experience and journey for my students is highly individualized. I am also incredibly hands-on; it's just me working with students! Please read my testimonials for more information.

Certainly. Please inquire privately by sending a message on the contact page and I'll get back to you with both student and parent referrals via email.

I've worked with students at top feeder schools, as well as students at public schools and smaller private schools. I've worked with students that are also neurodivergent. A lot of my work is diverse, and I pride myself in working with a wide variety of students. I'm happy to discuss how I might be able to help your son or daughter; please reach out by filling out my contact page. If I lack the experience or tools necessary to accommodate you and your family, I will gladly refer you to people that might be able to help.

If you're looking for really specific formulas to apply to college, I am not the right person; everything I do is very hands-on and personalized. If you are looking for quick-and-easy solutions, I am not the right fit; the college application process is long and full of introspection, and I support students with this every step of the way. If you're looking to apply to ONLY schools in the top 40 and below, I am not the right fit; I don't believe in having families waste money and time, so I will be straightforward when I think my services are not necessary and will recommend alternatives. If you're looking for someone who will write essays for the student, I am not the right fit; I spend a lot of time with students talking, brainstorming, asking them questions, providing them materials to become stronger, honest writers, and editing their essays.

This methodology can certainly feel strange. I should note that the entire time in working with students is not full of just watching films or listening to music. It usually only takes up a small portion of time spent with the student. I do this because students, I find, have an easier time reflecting on things they enjoy as opposed to their immediate lives, and from there, we can relate the art to their lives. Of course, this doesn't work for every student, so I am entirely flexible depending on the students' needs.

The number varies from year to year, but generally in a range of 10 to 20 students. I am the only person working with students; there is no outsourcing. Just me! Every student gets AT LEAST an hour with me a week, along with constant communication over Discord. Sometimes, if necessary, students receive even more hours if they need more help.
